Sundays In Oaxaca

Today we had the opportunity to join Trigo y Miel's loud, energetic, and encouraging church service. Pastor Victor's sermon, whether by coincidence or providence, focused on why certain people receive miracles from God, using God's provision for Trigo y Miel as an example. So, not only did we get to worship with the local community, but we had the chance to hear about Trigo y Miel's growth surrounded by the people who were there along the way.

At lunch, we heard more of Victor and his wife Lety's story, how they came to Christ, why they started Trigo y Miel, more about their family, and everything in between. It was Victor's hope to provide for their physical needs before teaching about the gospel, especially because so many people in Oaxaca dealing with poverty struggle to believe in God because of their situation. They wanted to grow the Oaxacan community in "wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and man." So, they started a school for wisdom, a feeding program for stature, and a church to grow closer to God.

The rest of the evening, Jose and Raquel took us and their family around Oaxaca. We had a brief visit to Monte Alban before an impressive thunderstorm said otherwise, then headed into the city for dinner and helado. It was a nice day of worship and rest before heading back to work tomorrow.

Here are some ways to pray for us:

  1. Our team heading home ran into some major delays due to the thunderstorm, so pray for safe travels for them

  2. Dan, our last team member to join us, will be arriving a day later due to his flight being cancelled last minute. Pray for his arrival and for safe travels

  3. Our team will have to adjust our plan for the week due to some unforeseen complications, including Dan's delayed arrival. Pray for wisdom as we work on adjusting and preparing for the week.

Here are some areas of thanksgiving:

  1. Jose and Raquel have given up a lot of their time to show us around their hometown the past two days, and we're thankful for them and all the support they've provided us this past week.

  2. We're thankful for Victor and Lety, their vision, and their leadership over Trigo y Miel.

  3. We're thankful for a roof over our heads as we dealt with heavy rain today.
